Last LinkedIn follow-up, 3 templates to close the thread without pushing.

Three last follow-up messages on LinkedIn that close the thread without reproach and leave the door open, and the prompt to adapt them to your business.

The three example messages.

The starting point

Claire, Head of Sales at Atelia, hasn’t replied to any of your messages about the Belgian market. Here are three ways to close the thread without pushing, while giving her an easy way back.

  1. 01

    Message 1

    The simplest version

Hi Claire, I won’t follow up further about the Belgian market. If the topic comes back, just reply to this message, even six months from now: I’ll know what it’s about.

Why it worksTwo sentences, with no question and no reproach. The message says it’s the last one and asks for nothing, not even a reply.

  2. 02

    Message 2

If the topic may come back later

Claire, I’ll set the Belgian topic aside. Should I get back in touch once your Belgium sales hire has started, or leave it there? Either answer works for me.

Why it worksThe question offers a date tied to a known fact and accepts a no. If Claire picks “later”, note the date and stick to it.

  3. 03

    Message 3

If you want a clear answer

Claire, to know whether I should keep writing, one number is enough: 1, you’re interested; 2, later; 3, not at all. I’ll respect your answer.

Why it worksReplying takes a single character, which removes the awkwardness of saying no. If the answer is 3, thank her and stop there.

You are an expert in B2B prospecting on LinkedIn. I want to adapt three LinkedIn messages to my business. They were written for this situation: a prospect hasn’t replied to any of my LinkedIn messages, and I want to close the thread without pushing.

Before writing anything, ask me these questions one at a time, waiting for my answer each time:
1. What does my company sell, and to whom?
2. What were my previous messages about?
3. Could a known event bring the topic back later: a new hire, a launch, a deadline?

Then rewrite each of the three messages below for my business, keeping its length and what makes it work, noted under each message.

Rules: each message stays under 400 characters and makes sense even if the previous ones weren’t read. No generic congratulations, no introduction of my company, no “just following up” and no proposed time slots, no assumptions about budget or buying plans, one question per message. If an answer is missing, ask for it rather than making it up.
